My experience over the years
As an experienced Obstetrician and Gynecologist, I, Dr. Mathias Odera Aketch, am dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support for women’s health. With a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery and specialization in obstetrics and gynecology from the esteemed University of Nairobi, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my practice.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in various hospitals and healthcare institutions, gaining valuable experience in surgical and obstetric procedures. My passion for improving adolescent health led me to conduct a study on the age of ovulation and reproductive biology awareness among adolescent girls.
I have also contributed to the field by studying the profile of mothers with babies born with congenital abnormalities. Throughout my career, I have actively pursued opportunities to enhance maternal care and promote safe pregnancies. I played a crucial role in implementing routine antenatal HIV screening and establishing comprehensive care clinics for HIV-infected individuals. Additionally, I introduced the use of manual vacuum aspiration for the management of incomplete miscarriages.
In my role as a lecturer and research fellow at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, I have had the privilege of shaping the curriculum for clinical medicine and surgery programs. I have mentored and trained numerous interns and clinical officers, imparting my knowledge and expertise to the next generation of medical professionals. As the chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, I have overseen its development, including recruitment of talented staff, procurement of state-of-the-art equipment, and fostering a collaborative environment through regular departmental meetings.
Currently serving as an honorary consultant at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, I am committed to reducing maternal mortality and researching advancements in cervical cancer prevention and management of polycystic ovary syndrome.
